| Ruth was an art and elementary education major at Southeast Missouri State University. She taught 5th grade, HS art, and college level art in the midwest before moving to Anderson in 1982 with her husband, Mark, and three teen children.
Ruth enjoys teaching the wonderful variety of options possible with watercolor to students in classes at the Anderson County Arts Center. She often uses realistic shapes with non-representational color choices. Value choices are made to enchance the illusion of depth, and rice papers are often used to provide textural interest. But, nothing is more exciting than the serendipity of mingling colors on the page in pure watercolor!
Ruth painted 3 very different large fish in the 2004 "Fish Out of Water, Hooked on the Arts" public Art Exhibit in downtown
Anderson. She had so much fun with the project, that she submitted several designs for the 2007 project, and was rewarded with receiving commissions for 4 large fish and an additional small one.
She is known for pen and ink drawings of local homes, churches, and Anderson College Buildings and continues to accept commissioned work in that medium also.
Ruth is a past president of Anderson Artists Guild, member of Studio South, member in excellence of SC Watercolor Society, and her work can be viewed locally in Bay 3 Gallery in the Anderson County Arts Center Warehouse.
