Thomas (Tom) Irby Tom resides on the land where he was born in 1937, in lower Greenville County. He could draw before he could write his name. He is completely self taught. His painting is in his personal style developed from studying the works of nationally acclaimed artists. From 1957 through 1961 he was the standby illustrator for the Greenville News. Tom is a professional structural and architectural designer. He was employed by a major engineering and architectural firm from 1966 to 1984. There he utilized his talent as a special equipment illustrator. He provided sportsmens cartoons for a national publication for two years. Tom has also completed several commissioned paintings. His subject preferences are wildlife and landscape. Tom’s first showing was in 1984 when two of his paintings were entered into competition. He was awarded the purple ribbon for best in the show. His artistic ability has until recently taken a back seat to his profession. He joined the Anderson Artists Guild in June of 2009. Tom has completed works in acrylic and oil pastel.
